Wilson Takes Aghagallon Cup 2010
At Bartins Bay todaay 16-year-old Jack Wilson became the youngest winner of the Aghagallon Cup and was upgraded to second category status in the process. The East Antrim rider was prominent throughout the race on the shores of Lough Neagh and was part of an eight man group who jumped clear towards the end of the race.
It all came together however on the final lap and Wilson still had the strength to win the massive bunch sprint ahead of Jason Henry (U/A) and Chris Richardson (Planet X).
The B race for the 4th category racers saw victory for Team Madigan’s Mel McCann who just pipped Robert Anderson (Orchard Wheelers), William Larmour (East Antrim) and Seamus Walshe (Phoenix CC). The points gained today by Barry Russell (Carn Wheelers) and william Larmour (East Antrim) see them upgraded to A3 status.
The third round of the SportActive Ulster Women’s League was also promoted by Clann Eireann at Bartins Bay and saw victory for local star Ciara Mulholland. The young Lurgan teenager is now the current leader of the league. Second place went to Mandy Collie (Orchard Wheelers) who is currently being trained by Adam Rayner. He is obviously doing a good job. Collie finished just ahead of Trudy Brown (Northern – Dave Kane), Louise Fullerton (Ballymena – Scott Tiles) and Julie Mulligan (Omagh Wheelers).
Clann Eireann also promoted a feast of youth events from Novice right through to U16 which were hotly contested. The youth races saw victories for Craig Crawford (TSC), Hanna Sharpe (Roe Valley) and Dylan Wilson (Ballymena-Scott Tiles).
There was crash in the Women's race with Mary Boyd (Roe Valley), Hannah Francis (Bikeworks) and Kay Hack (Bann wheelers) receiving the worst of it. Cycling Ulster hope that they recover quickly from any injuries sustained.
Clann Eireann are to be congratulated for the hard work which went into organising so many events in one day. With marshalls quickly changing from cycling gear into marshalls bibs when they finished the A4 race the Clann ensured that there was always full coverage on all corners.
