The Championship included the following events over the two days of competition.

  • Team Sprint
  • Match Sprint
  • Team Pursuit
  • Points Race (20km)
  • Keirin
  • Scratch Race (10 km)
  • Madison (20km)
  • Elimination
  • Tempo Race

In preparation for the event, the Cycling Ulster riders have raced and trained on our outdoor tracks extensively.

Over 30 sessions have been hosted by Ulster Track coaches on Monday and Wednesday evenings from April this year.

They included 2 inter-regional specific training days and a weekend of race training with Scottish Cycling development squad in Glasgow.

Credit to both riders and coaches for their commitment to track cycling development.

The Team selected by Cycling Ulster was:

Emer Heverin, Poppy Hamilton, Cara Suckling, Elliott Mckeegan, Curtis McKee, James Armstrong and Philip Glasgow.

Staffed by Katie Neil, Gary McClune, and Gary McKeegan.

The team performed well in all aspects, with personal best times, and took lots of learning from the process against teams who regularly race and train on indoor velodromes.

Cycling Ulster would like to build on this success with further events to develop beginners, participation, and performance-level athletes to be competent to compete in track cycling.
