This is not a race!  It is not a time trial!

For leisure cyclists completing 100 miles in 10 hours is normally quite easy.  Completing 100 miles in 8 hours is more of a challenge.

The no frills event is an opportunity to test your ability to ride at a steady pace over long distance.  It will also test your ability to read a map and follow simple instructions.  This not a competitive
event.  All you have to do is finish within your target time.

At sign on, entrants choose to undertake the 100 miles in either 8 hours or 10.  They can also choose to do 50 miles in 4 hours or 5. Maps will be provided and the roads will be clearly marked.  Food will be available in Moy during most of the day.

The flat route firstly consists of a Northerly anticlockwise loop up to Ballinderry, skirting Lough Neagh.

It then returns to Moy and the Southerly half consists of another figure of eight centred on Glaslough, Emyvale and Monaghan back through Dyan and Benburb.

Downpatrick Third World Development Cycle – Sunday 29 April

On Sunday 29th April 2018 the Third World Pedal Pushers will, once again, be holding their annual charity cycle tour, ranging from 10 miles to 60 miles.

This is a very popular tour which caters for families as well as the “serious” cyclist. This year the event headquarters has had to be moved to the East Down Athletic Club.

The family tour is approximately 10 miles from Downpatrick to the Villager restaurant car park in Crossgar (where light refreshments are supplied), and back. Riders can ride safely on the footpath which is great for the kids!

The main tour is approximately 60 miles (100 kms) long, taking in some of County Down’s spectacular scenery. The general route is Downpatrick-Clough-Castlewellan-Bryansford-Newcastle-
Dundrum-Clough-Tyrella-Killough-Ardglass-Strangford-Downpatrick.
Refreshments will be provided for participants at Dundrum Inner Bay lay-by and then back at East Down Athletic Club.

Back at the Athletic Club, there will be a substantial range of refreshments.

Registration from 9:15 am at the Athletic Club with start time at 10 am.
Motorcycle marshals will support the main tour and backup vehicles will support both routes.

The Gullion Tour – Sunday 29 April

The Gullion Tour hosted by Armagh Down Cycling Club takes place on the 29th April from Newry Shamrocks GAA. Each year we support a local charity and this year is no different. The Eamonn Morgan Trust was initially developed by members of Eamonn’s family and his close friends in his local community. Eamonn was much loved and respected within our community, particularly within the sporting community. Many people were shocked and saddened at his death and they quickly rallied around to develop the Trust. Eamonn was known for his enthusiasm for many sports both through his teaching and coaching roles. The Trust with this in mind strive to continue in Eamonn’s legacy by supporting local children through engaging in sports.

The trust to date have received sponsorship through charity nights, strictly come dancing events, golf tournaments, car boot sales and marathons etc. Much of the fundraising generated has been done through Eamonn’s friends and family, local sports groups, schools and the community etc

Please note: A one-day Cycling Ireland license costing £5/€5 is required by riders not currently holding a Cycling Ireland license. This can be purchased on the day at the Shamrocks GAA Club.
