Since its first event in 2008, local cycling club, Carn Wheelers have run its annual charity cycle, the ‘Tour of South Derry’.  This year it takes its usual spot and venue on the calendar, Sunday 9th October starting at Rossa Park, Magherafelt and as always, all money raised is for the local Macmillan Cancer Support group.

The numbers for the event have risen year on year and Carn Wheelers spokesperson, Mickey Donnelly comments ‘To date, over £55,000 has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and all money donated goes directly to the Macmillan with the local business sponsors absorbing the majority of the running costs for the event including the prized T-Shirt’

For many new cyclists, this was their first charity cycle and Carn Wheelers continue to encourage new cyclists by providing a less hilly 35-mile option that bypasses some of the hillier sections of the 50-mile route.

The Tour of South Derry has become as famous for the ample catering after the event as well as the coveted T-Shirt and this year will be no different with a T-Shirt guaranteed for all online entrants registered before the event.  Online entry is now open with the entry fee remaining at £15.  Check www.carnwheelers.co.uk for more event details.

Carn Wheelers look forward to seeing new cyclists on the day!
