Cycling Ulster Chair, Tommy McCague has welcomed the announcement of funding for the building of cycling trails in Rossmore Forest Park and for the development of a new cycle route from Kingscourt in County Cavan to Carrickmacross in County Monaghan following extensive campaigning which included Cycling Ulster representatives.

Speaking following the announcement, the CU Chair said:

“It’s fantastic to see over €380,000 in funding secured from the Outdoor Recreation Scheme for cycling infrastructure in Cavan and Monaghan.

“Cycling Ulster representatives have been working in conjunction with others such as Emyvale Cycling Club, Monaghan County Council and locally elected representatives to deliver funding for these projects.

“Dedicated cycling facilities, free from traffic is a great way to introduce new people to our sport and particularly youth so it’s important we continue to see an increase in off-road venues for cycling.

“Rossmore Forest Park is a family friendly facility and the development of cycling trails here together with the new cycle route will help increase cycling participation.

“I want to thank everyone who has assisted with gaining this funding including the numerous elected representatives from the area.

“Additional cycling infrastructure throughout the province is a key objective of Cycling Ulster and we will continue to work with the various stakeholders to try and deliver further projects in the time ahead.”
