The first Davagh Ready to Race youth MTB event took place recently in Davagh Forest and proved to be a really positive day for everyone involved.

Young riders of all ages came along to take part, and it was great to see such a strong turnout. Thankfully, the weather stayed kind, with just the odd shower passing through, and the forest provided a fantastic setting for the event.

A Day on the Trails

The morning was spent out on the trails with coaches, giving riders the chance to recce three routes and pick up tips on the skills needed to handle different sections of terrain. After a short lunch break back at the event hub, the afternoon moved on to timed runs. This gave everyone the opportunity to put what they’d learned into practice and experience a little bit of the buzz that comes with racing.

The atmosphere throughout was relaxed and supportive, with plenty of enthusiasm from both riders and parents. It was clear to see the progress being made as the day went on.

Team Effort

Events like this don’t happen without support. A big thank you goes to The Outdoor Partnership and Mid Ulster Council for helping to make the day possible, as well as to the Cycling Ulster Off-Road Commission for their input and guidance. Most importantly, thanks to the coaches and volunteers who gave up their time to help – the feedback from riders and parents has been excellent and is a real credit to their efforts.

Looking Forward

The success of this first Ready to Race event shows there’s a real appetite for more opportunities like it. We’d love to run another one soon and to bring the format to other trail centres in the future, giving even more young riders the chance to build their skills and confidence.

Thanks again to everyone who supported and took part – we’re already looking forward to the next one.
