On January 18, 2025, the Cycling Ulster Women’s Commission held their first-ever Winter Wellness event at the stunning Tollymore Outdoor Centre. Following the success and demand for more events like the annual Big Day Out in September, this winter gathering aimed to bring the cycling community together for a day of activity, learning, and camaraderie.

The event welcomed over 50 women who participated in mountain biking and gravel rides during the morning sessions.
With routes and activities tailored for all skill levels, there was something for everyone:

  • “New to Naturals” guided by Ian Bailey.
  • Intermediate trails led by Julie, Karen, and Gillian.
  • Experienced natural trails with Louise, Rachel, and Kath.

A special highlight was the involvement of trail cycle leaders trained by the Women’s Commission, showcasing the growing network of skilled leaders within the community.

For gravel enthusiasts, Community Bike Ride Leaders Gemma, Bernice, and Margaret guided participants through a challenging 20km route, while Donna and Claire led a shorter, more accessible route.

After the rides, participants enjoyed a hearty lunch, expertly prepared by the Tollymore Outdoor Centre staff—delicious stew that hit the spot on a winter’s day!

Afternoon Workshops
The day continued with engaging workshops, including:

  • Suspension setup with Dale’s Race Tuning.
  • Positive thinking.
  • Planning your cycling year.
  • Meditation and breathwork.
  • Yoga for relaxation and recovery.

The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback, evolving from a small January gathering into a mini Big Day Out.
New and returning participants alike praised the variety of activities and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Cycling Ulster Women’s Commission extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, contributed, and made the event a seamless success.
