The first session of the Women’s Intro to Track programme at Orangefield Velodrome was a huge success, with a fantastic turnout of women keen to experience track cycling for the very first time.

The evening began with riders taking their own bikes onto the banking to get comfortable riding on the velodrome and learning how the track flows. From there, the group moved onto the grass area to practise starts and stops on track bikes, giving everyone the chance to get used to riding a fixed gear bike without freewheels or brakes.

Once confidence started to build, riders progressed onto the track bikes on the velodrome itself, putting their new skills into practice on the banking. For many attending, it was their first ever experience riding a track bike, and there was plenty of learning, encouragement and laughter throughout the session.

It was especially encouraging to see such a strong number of women coming along to give track cycling a try. Some riders heard about the initiative through the Women’s Intro Leagues, while others have signed up to the Women’s Commission teams for Mondello 24.

The session created a welcoming and supportive environment for women to develop new skills, build confidence and try a different discipline of cycling. With such a positive first evening, excitement is already building for the next session.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who came along and supported the night, helping make the first Women’s Intro to Track session such a success.

Here’s to more women discovering the fun and challenge of track cycling at Orangefield!
