Cycling Ulster has announced a strong squad of riders that will represent the province in next month’s Rás Tailteann.
Banbridge’s Matthew Teggart will swap the jersey of his professional team, WiV SunGod for the Ulster jersey in his home national tour after a strong season to date which has included victories in the opening three rounds of Cycling Ireland’s National Road Series.
John Buller who is currently racing as an amateur in France and is another Banbridge CC rider also returns home to represent the province in the five day stage race.
Powerhouse Sport’s Lindsay Watson has previously been the top performer of the Ulster team while competing in events such as the Lincoln GP and will be hoping for something similar in this event. Watson has already shown himself capable of winning a stage race on Irish roads this season having taken victory in the Rás Mumhan at Easter.
Caldwell Cycles duo, Darnell Moore, a multiple Irish championship medalist on the road and off-road and Gareth O’Neill make up the remainder of the team.
The team manager for the Ulster team, Barry Monaghan said:
“I am delighted that we have the opportunity to have such a strong Cycling Ulster team take part in this year’s Rás Tailteann.
“There was a great response from riders earlier in the year when the Road Commission announced our intention to take part in the event and selecting the team was a difficult task due to the high standard of riders in the province.
“Each of the riders picked has the potential to do well on stages and the overall so I am looking forward to the race and seeing what we can achieve on the road.
“I want to thank our sponsors, O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors and Donnelly Group as well as all the volunteers in Cycling Ulster for their continued support.”
