Day one of the Commonwealth Games track programme ended with a top 10 finish for Irish sprint start Robyn Stewart in the women’s sprint event.
She started the day with a competition best time of 11.062 in qualifying to see her ride off in the 1/8th finals against New Zealander Emma Cumming, where she ended in an eventual 9th place overall.
In the Pursuit events, Ballymena`s Eilleen Burns bettered her personal best time for the 3000 metre distance by 8 seconds, recording 3.42.486 for an eventual 17th place.
In the highly competitive men’s 4000m event Marcus Christie, riding his second Commonwealth Games, recorded 4.35.402 for 20th place, whilst Co Down`s Xeno Young, competing for only the third time over the Senior distance went three seconds better than his previous best time posting 4.24.568 for 14th place. The Gold medal was won by England`s Charlie Tanfield from Scotland`s John Archibald, whose sister Katie took Golld in the women’s event earlier in the evening.
Saturday sees bunch racing on the programme with Mark Downey, Marc Potts and Xeno Young compete in the men’s Scratch race heats and final, whilst Lydia Boyan lines up in the Women’s Points event.

Eileen Burns was 17th in the Individual Pursuit with a PB of 3.42.486.
Xeno Young was 14th in the 4km Individual Pursuit with a PB time of 4.24.568 and Marcus Christie 20th in the same event with 4.35.402.
