The Cycling Ulster Road Commission have released their planned race programme and selection policy for 2018. The Road Commission are responsible for senior, under 23 and junior males.
Road Commission Chairman, Patrick Withers said:
“We have set out an ambitious race programme as we aim to provide Ulster riders with the opportunity to compete in events they otherwise would be unlikely to get an opportunity to take part in. For the last two years, Ulster senior and under 23 teams have been entered in events in the British Cycling elite calendar and this will be the same again as we seek to get an entry for the Lincoln GP in May and the Tour of the Reservoir in June.
“In August we plan to return to the Estivale Breton stage race in France. Cycling Ulster feel it is important to provide opportunities for our riders to compete at international level events and while we are doing this on a limited budget, we have tried to put a programme together that enables our senior and under 23 riders to race at events that they could not do with their club teams.
“The junior programme contains three stage races, the Spokes Cycles 2-Day in Britain in June, the Junior Tour of Ireland and the Junior Tour of Wales. These events attract some of the strongest junior cyclists in Ireland, Britain, continental Europe and further afield. They provide a great opportunity for Ulster juniors to learn to race together as a team and against the best of their peers.”
Senior, under 23 and junior male riders interested in representing Ulster on the road this season should take a look at the selection policy and register their interest by e-mailing Patrick Withers (pswithers@hotmail.com) and Peter Ward (pward4155@btinternet.com) with a copy of their CV and the events they wish to be considered for selection for. Riders should use the text ‘CU Road Selection 2018’ in the subject of their e-mail.
Anyone who is interested in acting in a support capacity to the road teams this season should also e-mail Patrick and Peter, outlining their preferred role (Manager, Mechanic, Soigneur), the events they wish to be involved in and their relevant experience.
