Flagship Road Event Set For Broadcast on ‘The Home of Cycling‘
This year’s Women’s and Men’s elite road races at the National Cycling Championships will be televised for the first time on British Eurosport. Ireland’s top road racers will feature in a half-hour highlights show to be broadcast in the week following the championships in Omagh, Co Tyrone on June 27th 28th. The best of Ireland’s local racers will be joined by many of the continental-based riders in the fight for the coveted national champions jerseys.
Eurosport cycling commentator Declan Quigley will present highlights of the women’s elite and men’s senior races in a programme set for several transmissions on the renowned sports network.
Announcing the news on behalf of event promoters Omagh Wheelers Cycling Club, Stevie McKenna expressed his delight at bringing his club’s marquee event to a wider stage.
“This year’s championships is set to be one of the great weekends of bike racing in recent memory and it’s only right that it should be presented on a platform as prestigious as British Eurosport.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Irish bike racing and the beautiful surroundings of County Tyrone presented in the best possible light.”
Cycling Ireland CEO Geoff Liffey has also welcomed the development:
“Bringing our sport to a to a wider audience is an important cornerstone in the development of the sport in Ireland.
“The National Road Race Championships is traditionally one of the most important events on the calendar and it’s entirely appropriate that we should have this opportunity to present the event on British Eurosport, a channel which has become synonymous with top bike racing coverage.
