The Cycling Ulster Women’s Commission hosted a fantastic Winter Wellness event on Saturday 17th January, at Davagh Forest Trails and the OM Dark Sky Park & Observatory, bringing together women from across the province for a day of social cycling and wellbeing activities.
The day kicked off with a choice of morning rides to suit all abilities: MTB, eMTB, Gravel- Chill, and Gravel- Explore More.
Each ride offered a friendly, social experience on marked trails in Davagh Forest and surrounding gravel paths, allowing everyone to enjoy the ride at their own pace.
Participants were warmly seen off by Cllr Eva Cahoon, Chair of the Council’s Policy & Resources Committee, who joined the group to welcome everyone and cheer them on at the start.
After the rides, everyone gathered at Shepherd’s Rest for a well-deserved lunch before the afternoon Wellness Retreat.
Attendees could choose between the full retreat or the mini retreat, which included a special tour of the OM Dark Skies Observatory, a highlight for many participants.
The event received fantastic feedback from participants, with many praising the friendly atmosphere, the beautiful trails, and the unique combination of cycling and wellbeing activities.
A huge thank you goes to our ride leaders for guiding the morning sessions, Shepherd’s Rest for providing a welcoming lunch space, Lisa, for the Breathwork session, the OM Dark Sky Observatory for an inspiring afternoon experience, and Mid Ulster Council for supporting a number of the activities and making this event possible.
The Winter Wellness event was a wonderful reminder of the power of cycling, community, and self-care, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
