This is the first year that the Commission has run cross-country races at this venue. It suits as a development stage between cyclo-cross and cross-country. There are races for youth and adults. We have also included timeslots for the Retro class and E-bikes.
The Retro class is for bicycles which are at least 10 years old, with gridding for the Retro race based on the age of the bike. Bikes will be gridded by age with those with 26″ wheels, no suspension, V brakes etc. getting to start ahead of those with suspension, those with disc brakes or those with wheels bigger than 26″. This is aimed at bringing back in some of the “old school” riders who have been looking after their old bikes. This is an opportunity for those bikes to shine. Minimum of 6 riders required.
The E-bike race would be held if we get at least 6 entries. There are opportunities for riders to race the main race (on a modern bike) and then take part in the Retro race or the E-bike race.
Course Description:
The site has a flat, mostly hard packed circuit with some single track through the trees at the edge of the site. The start will be about 300 metres to the first corner which then leads into the single track. Speed off the line will be important. The single track section is a well worn track through the trees, over some logs and the out over a bridge. The course then takes the riders out onto the open section for some sprint section, before heading through the tyre chicane to the embankment. The riders will pass through the embankment three times before then heading back towards the trees for another section of single track. Back over the bridge and into the final tyre chicane before turning right back on to the finish straight. Lap time around 7 minutes.
