Cycling Ulster is proud to announce the appointment of Claire Young as Chairperson following last night’s AGM at Quinn’s Corner.
Claire makes history as the first woman to hold this position, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and experience from across the sport and beyond.
Currently serving on the Cycling Ireland Board, Claire is a well-known and respected figure within the Ulster cycling community. As a former Secretary of Cycling Ulster, she has extensive experience in governance and administration, along with strong relationships with riders, clubs, and volunteers across the province.
Passionate about inclusivity, Claire has long been a champion of female participation in the sport. During her time on the Cycling Ulster Women’s Commission, she played a key role in creating the Women on Wheels programme – a grassroots initiative that has significantly boosted female membership and participation in both on- and off-road cycling.
Alongside her governance work, Claire is an active coach with Apollo Cycling Team, where she helps nurture the next generation through its youth programme. An enthusiastic rider herself, she enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, and gravel riding – giving her a deep appreciation of the diverse disciplines within the sport. Holding several Cycling Ireland coaching qualifications, Claire combines strategic insight with hands-on sporting experience.
On her appointment, Claire said:
“It is an honour to take on the role of Chairperson of Cycling Ulster. I look forward to working with clubs, volunteers, and partners to continue developing cycling at every level across the province. This is an exciting time for the sport, and I am committed to building on the great work of those who have gone before me.”
