Ulster youth riders had a great session at Moneymore Kart track on Tuesday, with a good bunch of racers plus developing riders working on skills and mock races.

After the safety check and introductions, the racing group went straight onto the track to warm up before launching into group riding skills such as through-and-off, passing bottles between all riders and the football-formations game where the peloton had to form quickly into the required formation, e.g. 244, 1234, 532, etc.
All aimed at getting our young riders used to working quickly and safely in the bunch while moving at speed.
Then they moved onto a session covering TT starts and sprints – looking at gearing, body position and timing.
At the same time the developing riders were working on skills games and bike control getting ready for when they move up to join the others. Starting on the grass they progressed onto the track for some laps.
A short break for refreshments took place before the serious stuff started with the mock races!
We had an elimination race where the last over the line each lap was removed, whitling the field down to a 2 man sprint finish.
A 1-lap TT where the results came down to a few seconds, showing the importance of a good start, and finally a handicap scratch race where we could see a lot of skills put into place as the various groups all worked together.
All in all, a fantastic night with some really great progression from the kids. Tired legs on the way home, but adrenaline flowing and smiles on faces.
