During the February mid-term holidays, the Cycling Ulster Development Team, in collaboration with Belfast City Council, hosted four days of Learn to Cycle and Balance Bike skills sessions. These sessions aimed to help young riders build confidence and transition from balance bikes or stabilisers to pedalling independently.
The events took place at Inverary Community Centre and Duncairn Community Centre, offering a safe and supportive environment for children to develop their cycling skills. Demand was overwhelmingโthe sessions were completely free and fully booked, with a large waiting list of eager participants.
What a difference a few days make! The success rate was incredibly high, with many children mastering the skill of cycling by the end of the programme. Seeing their excitement and newfound confidence on two wheels was truly inspiring.
Encouraged by the fantastic response, we hope to bring more sessions like this to other community centres across the city. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved and help more children experience the joy of cycling!
