The success of Cycling Ulster’s 2019 Women on Wheels Programme was recognised by Sport NI recently when it received a nomination in their annual Sport Maker Awards.

The WOW programme enabled many women to take part in cycling for the first time with strong encouragement coming from many clubs in the province.

Cycling Ulster Secretary and Women’s Commission representative, Claire Young said:

“Cycling Ulster are delighted that our Women on Wheels Programme was nominated in Sport NI’s 2019 Sport Maker Awards.

“This female participation initiative was an outstanding success which saw 10 clubs taking part and over 120 participants.

“It is important that we continue to encourage participation for all in the various areas of our sport. I look forward to continuing the WOW programme next year.

“I want to thank all the clubs, ride leaders, Cycling Ireland and in particular the CU Women’s Commission for their support in this initiative.”
