The Cycling Ulster team enjoyed success at the second round of the National Road Series in County Limerick over the weekend, the Newcastle West 4-Day.

The Cycling Ulster squad for the A1/2 race was made up predominantly of under 23 riders for the event with the experienced member of the team, Chris McGlinchey taking on the designated team captain role.

McGlinchey won the opening stage on Friday evening, an 8km time-trial and retained the yellow jersey on Saturday and Sunday. Despite valiant attempt to defend the yellow jersey along with his team mates, McGlinchey lost the race lead on the final stage and slipped to ninth overall.

Caldwell Cycles rider, Gareth O’Neill ended up as the top Ulster based rider in the race, climbing to second spot overall on the final stage.

Ulster riders also enjoyed success in the other events with Dean Harvey (VC Glendale) winning the overall classification in the A3/Junior event and Sharon Bird (Ballymena RC) finishing second in the women’s event.

Cycling Ulster are grateful for the continued support of our kit sponsors, O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors and vehicle sponsors, Donnelly Group for this event.
