Seven riders have been selected to represent Cycling Ulster in the first edition of the Women’s Newry 3 Day that gets underway on Friday 1st July.

Irish international on the road and in cyclo-cross, Darcey Harkness is one of the most experienced in the line-up despite still being an under 23 rider.

Two of the most consistent performers on the local racing scene this year who took first and second in the Ulster Women’s Road League, Elena Wallace and Helen McParland have been included in the squad along with this year’s Killinchy GP winner, Jemma Speers.

The remaining trio for the Ulster team are Alison Higgins, Ciara Kelly and Niamh Lavery.

Speaking following the team announcement, Cycling Ulster Road Commission Chairperson, Frank Campbell said:

“We have a strong squad of riders representing Ulster in the first ever Women’s Newry 3 Day this weekend.

“It’s great to have a women’s only stage race which will provide riders with an opportunity to gain experience of racing over multiple days as well as help them develop for the future.”

Cycling Ulster would like to thank our sponsors, O’Reilly Stewart Solicitors and Donnelly Group for supporting the team with kit and vehicles this weekend.
