There is strong representation from the Cycling Ulster region on the Cycling Ireland Youth Commission following their 2018 AGM at the weekend.

Emyvale CC members, Mickey and Declan McKenna have been appointed to the Treasurer and Secretary roles respectively. Mickey McKenna has been involved in youth cycling at club, provincial and national level for two decades.

Former Cycling Ulster Chair, Maurice McAllister has also joined the committee of the commission.

Speaking following the meeting, McAllister said:

“The national youth commission have an important amount of work to do in the coming year. Safeguarding is a matter of major importance for all sports involving young people and this will continue to be a priority in the time ahead.

“The youth are our future of the sport and we must continue to invest and work on developing structures to help them achieve and reach their potential.

“I will also continue to work with the Ulster Youth Academy and liaise with the national youth commission on matters that might arise from a provincial level.”
