Matthew Teggart was to the fore throughout the men’s road race at the Commonwealth Games, going clear in a 15 rider break and finishing fourth.

The Banbridge rider has had a successful 2022 campaign which included winning the opening stage of the Rás Tailteann in June while riding on the Ulster team.

Teggart’s fourth place equals the best result ever in the road race that was achieved by Mark Downey in 2018.

The rest of the team finished in the main bunch with Darren Rafferty in 35th, Chris McGlinchey in 39th and Cameron Orr in 52nd.

Rafferty was also a fantastic eighth in the men’s TT.

Earlier in the day, Alice Sharpe had contested the large bunch sprint which decided the women’s road race, finishing 15th.
