Cycling Ulster Chair, Tommy McCague has welcomed progress on plans to develop an off-road cycle route in Rossmore Park, County Monaghan.

Earlier this year, Monaghan County Council announced funding for the off-road cycle route which will build on the links Rossmore Park currently has with the Ulster Canal Greenway.

Emyvale Cycling Club and Cycling Ulster have been involved in the process to date with the project currently at the design stage.

Speaking after a meeting with various stakeholders this week, Tommy McCague said:

“Emyvale Cycling Club and Cycling Ulster are delighted to be involved in this initiative which has been allocated over €350,000 in funding between the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme and Monaghan County Council.

“Work is ongoing on the design at present and it will then go to tender for the construction process.

“This project aims to create an off-road cycling facility that will be suitable for entire families to use which will be a great boost for cycling in Monaghan town and the wider area.

“When it is completed, it will be a fantastic resource to develop young cyclists skills in a traffic free environment.

“I want to thank Monaghan County Council for their continued work on developing Rossmore Park and look forward to seeing future developments.”
