Michael McGlynn led a strong performance by the Cycling Ulster team in last week’s Junior Tour of Ireland when he took ninth place overall.

McGlynn was in amongst the top ten on general classification throughout the six day event, finished as the second placed Irish rider and was rewarded for his consistency of being at the front of the race on every stage by taking second place in the climber’s classification.

Kevin McCambridge finished just outside the top 20 overall and tenth in the first year junior classification. Conor Halvey took 25th place overall with some good individual stage results including a top ten on stage four.

Oisin Doherty survived crashes and mechanicals throughout the week, working in support of the team and finished 68th overall out of the 103 finishers.

Other Ulster riders who had some great results were Shay Donley who won a stage and had a top three on stage four and Cathir Doyle who won the climber’s classification, both riding as part of the Irish team.

Chair of the Road Commission, Patrick Withers said:

“The team performed well throughout the Junior Tour with a particularly strong result by Michael McGlynn who was in contention for the overall win all week.

“The strength in depth of juniors in the province can be seen from how well the team rode considering the number of Ulster riders who were representing Ireland in the Junior Tour and the European Championships.

“I would like to congratulate all of the Ulster riders who took part in the event, it requires a lot of dedication all season long to be able to compete in an international race over six days. I want to thank Maurice and Stevie McAllister for looking after the team and the parents of the Ulster team riders who also helped out during the week.”
