Cycling, and Ulster in particular, lost another one of its local heroes today with the passing of Leo McKenna of Omagh Wheelers. Leo is father to well known competitive cyclists Stephen and Kieran McKenna and to Siobhan McGrath who has been a stalwart, along with Stephen of Omagh Wheelers for many years. It is hardly surprising however as Leo himself was one of the founding members of the club some twenty years ago. The club recently celebrated their twentieth anniversary and during the speeches tributes were paid to Leo who could not be there due to illness.

Leo not only supported his own family in their cycling ambitions but was a true club member, carrying out any task that was required from driving lead cars, standing at a corner or doing back up in the cavalcade. He was a well known figure not only around the Omagh area but both provincially and nationally as well. One of life’s true gentlemen, Leo will be missed by all those who knew him

Cycling Ulster would like to extend its deepest sympathy and that of its members to Mary his wife, sons Stephen and Kieran and daughter, Siobhan, and all the extended family. Funeral arrangements can be viewed below.
