Easton Takes Mayfair Grand Prix Again

Saturday's Mayfair Grand Prix on the Ballynure circuit saw last year's victor, Denis Easton (Maryland Wheelers), pip Glen Kinning (Castlereagh CC)on the line to take his second win in this race. The event attracted a good number of riders from all categories. The tough, hilly course soon took its toll as bunches became split. A group consisting of Tommy Wilson (Ballymena RC), Denis Easton (Maryland Wheelers), Tony McConville (Wheels in Motion/Fuji Bikes), Glen Kinning (Castlereagh CC), Fraser Duncan (Northern Dave Kane), Matthew Ward (Phoenix CC), Wilie Hamilton (AudiEast Antrim) and Kieran O'Neill (Classic Walls) kept the pace high and soon opened up a considerable gap on the main field. There were several attacks in this group with Fraser Duncan attempting to get away but he was soon reeled in. In the closing laps Willie Hamilton and Tony McConville were dropped leaving the remaining six to fight it out. On the final lap Glen Kinning and Denis Easton attacked and sprinted for home, with Denis just taking it on the line. Fraser Duncan led the chasers in with Matthew Ward taking fourth.

Matthew, recovering from a knee problem, was pleased with his performance. "The knee did not give me any trouble today despite the draggy course so I am hoping that I will soon be back in full racing form." he said.
