Evans Back On Form

Wallace Caldwell Memorial 2005

Tommy Evans returned to his winning ways when he notched up his first victory of the season in the Wallace Caldwell Memorial road race today. The Planet X rider, who finished 4th in last weekend's Tour of Ulster, was in the thick of the action which began just 10 miles after the start at Galgorm. The tough 65-mile circuit which included climbs at Springwell, Cam Forest and Tully suited the Banbridge star who was going for his second successive win in this prestigious classic.
In the end he made it look easy leaving the break at Springwell with 25 miles remaining and stayed clear to the finish crossing the line 1-34 ahead of team-mate Aaron Deane. Local favourite Ryan Connor of the promoting Ballymena Road Cub finished third, just over 2 minutes in arrears.
