Armstrong Reigns Supreme At Seskinore

Adam Petrie – Armstrong scored his first win of the season with a fine solo display in the McCann Cup at Seskinore today. The Northern CC rider was part of the first bunch comprising Veterans aged over 50 and juniors who received a 5 minute handicap back to the scratch bunch in the 100 kilometre road race. This group worked particularly well and only a small number of third category riders managed to bridge the gap across and no second category riders at all. With a field in excess of 100 riders this was somewhat surprising.

On the penultimate lap Armstrong attacked on his own and although his lead never exceeded 20 seconds in the last 15 miles, he still managed to hold on soloing home 10 seconds ahead of the chasers.

Simon Williams (Orchard Wheelers) won the sprint for second place ahead of Ernie Magwood (East Tyrone), Padraig Lynch (Newry) and Lawrence Divers (Bann Valley).

This was a particularly fine display from young Williams, who was riding his first race as a Junior.

Thanks must go out to Omagh Wheelers, promoters of the race for their excellent organisation. Thanks too, to the Halfway House whose soup and sandwiches went a long way to warm up all involved after a race held in freezing conditions.
