Hall Takes Bunch Gallop at Nutts Corner

Perfect handicapping saw today's Phoenix Grand Prix at Nutts Corner come down to a massive bunch sprint. The 70 plus field were despatched in three groups separated by 4 minutes but the bunches gradually came together towards the latter end of the race. Despite attempts from Jonathon Dempsey, GaryCranston,(East Anrrim), Glen Kinning, Peter Hawkins (Castlereagh) and Norman Campbell (U/A) to go clear the field was all intact in the last mile.
Apollo's Alan Hall got the verdict in the dash for the line over Peter Hawkins and Glen Kinning with Shaun Gray (Orchard Wheelers), Barry Mullin (Phoenix) and Omagh veteran Micky Gallen completing the top six.

The supporting women's race was won by Kay Hack (Bann Wheelers) from Gemma Donaghy (Phoenix)and Elaine Harte (Phoenix).

Phoenix CC wish a speedy recovery to Maryland's Mark Greer who crashed heavily in the sprint finish.

Thanks also to John Cole for providing the caravan and Hazel Hughes for the many cups of tea and coffee. The race was well marshalled and organised.

Cycling Ulster would like to thank all clubs who make the effort to promote races. It is never an easy task but is much appreciated by the riders and spectators.
