Cycling Ulster were saddened to learn of the death of Eddie Polin (Island Wheelers) last week.

Eddie was a cycling stalwart who has been active in the sport for several decades, as a cyclist and as a volunteer.

Eddie was heavily involved in cycling in the East Tyrone and Armagh area in particular with Island Wheelers, Dungannon Wheelers and the Lurgan based club, Apollo Cycling Team for a spell.

As a volunteer he helped in these clubs event promotions, including races and leisure cycles which raised money for charities in the local area.

As a member of the Ulster Cycle Promotions Club, Eddie assisted with the running of the Tour of Ulster, an input that ranged from advice on the race route to road markings as well as driving the neutral service vehicles.

Eddie loved the buzz of the sport and had a wealth of knowledge of local cycling. If he was not actively involved in an event, he was often in attendance and could be heard recounting tales of previous races and riders.

His contribution to cycling was appreciated by riders and event organisers.

Cycling Ulster would like to extend our condolences to his family, friends and club mates.
