There have been updates to the Covid-19 restrictions by the Irish government and Stormont Executive in recent days.

Cavan and Monaghan will join Donegal under the Irish government’s level 3 restrictions as of midnight tonight (Tuesday 6th October). Additional restrictions have also been placed Derry and Strabane District Council area.

Please see below outline on how these impact on cycling in both jurisdictions.

Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal

Training
Outdoors: Cycling Ireland club training sessions and approved activities can proceed provided government guidelines regarding maximum participant numbers (15) are adhered to and riders stay within the county.

Indoors: Individual training only.

Competition
Participation in cycling events is not permitted (exemption: professional/elite can take place behind closed doors.)


Travel

Travel is permitted for work and essential journeys only.


Additional guidance received by Cycling Ireland in recent days allows for the following exemptions.

  • Professional Team riders (UCI) and Sport Ireland/Sport NI carded athletes
  • Athletes participating in an Elite Team Sprint/Pursuit/Keirin National Championship (10.10.2020) in Dublin. At present all riders (including Juniors) will be eligible to compete in these events if they wish to do so.

Derry & Strabane District Council

The Stormont Executive announced at the end of last week that additional restrictions were being introduced for people living in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.


Training
/ Competition

Indoors: Individual training only.
Outdoors: Exemption for sports events and training to continue (with no spectators).

Travel

All unnecessary travel outside of the area and into the area should be avoided.
