Aiken Wins Ciclisport Grand Prix
Roger Aiken scored his first win in his new Planet X colours with a clear victory in the Ciclisport Grand Prix promoted by East Tyrone CC at Moneymore. East Antrim Junior Jack Wilson and John Madden of Curran Racing were the early leaders in the 90 kilometre race trying to stay away from the A1 riders who had to overcome a seven minute handicap.
In the last lap a number of the scratch group made contact and Aiken showed his class outsprinting Wilson and Nathan Morgan (Newry Wheelers) for the line. Ballymena’s Philip Bremer finished a strong fourth in his first race since breaking his collar just before the start of the season with Curran Racing pair Liam Curran and John Madden taking the next two positions.
The B race for A4 category riders came down to a bunch sprint won by North Down CC’s Duane McCreedy from J.J. Connelly (Harps CC) and Bryan Martin (Western Lakes). Fourth spot went to Barry Russell (carn Wheelers) with Stephen Beck (East Antrim –Audi) and Brian Steele (Dromara CC) completing the top six.
The youth racing saw victories for Jake Gray (Orchard Wheelers), Declan Mulholland (Clann Eireann) and Cormac Clarke (Newry Wheelers) in the U12, U14 and U16 events.
