Ards Centre Race 4th June 2003
Lenny Kirk gave Ards a 'home win' tonight in the town centre race.
A good crowd enjoyed the fine weather and a program of races for novices underage and seniors.
Lennys display was as good as any of his amazing tally of eight wins on this circuit. He was prominent for the first few laps and by half distance was in the lead with Owen Jeffries (Northern Dave Kane). On the last laps Gary McKeegan (Team Madigan)and Ben Morrow (East Antrim Audi) crossed to them but Lenny still had the power at the finish to take a great win.
His last win in Ards was 1987 and his first was 1976 when he won the senior race and was only 15 years old.
Best junior rider tonight was Peter Hawkins (Castlereagh) and 1st U16 was Andrew Mc Cullough.
New Ards Member Richard Thompson was the Under 14 winner in his first ever race.
Stuart Henry (Toyota North Down) won the U12s.
The novice race was the most entertaining of the night. The children rode three laps of the circuit. Young Christopher Oakley was a clear winner but the sprint for second and third was so close a photo was required. Andrew Godfrey and Curtis Blayney were judged second equal.
