Lakeland Grand Prix 4/5/03
A wet afternoon didn’t deter Bann Valley’s Alistair Steel as he took victory in a bunch sprint at the Lakeland Grand Prix in Enniskillen last Sunday. On a day when the conditions contributed to several crashes the main field stayed together for most of the 52-mile/6 lap race. Breaks came and went with the best efforts coming from Shaun Turner (Bann Valley) and Gerald Heverin (Castlereagh) who had established a 20 sec lead on lap 5. However inside the final Kilometre the field came together for a sprint finish with Donal Clancey (Four Masters)and Sean McGreevey (Phoenix) taking 2nd and 3rd just behind Steel.
Kenny Boylan, Eddie Carson and David Dunlop provided local interest for the hosting club with Boylan finishing in the main field avoiding a crash which brought down Carson within yards of the line, Dunlop was forced to retire on lap 4 with a puncture.
